I’ve chosen to stand in this harsh wind and watch a sport that I don’t understand. I don’t enjoy rugby, but I came to watch a friend play the game he loves. I came because I value his friendship, and I want to support him. I want to see him smile as he runs across the field. I know that in his mind he is playing for the championship at his favorite stadium. He doesn’t see this battered sports field and this tiny crowd. Today, he is a legend, and he wants me to be here to see it. I’ve been given the opportunity to share in one of his magical moments. I don’t need to know the rules or understand the game. I’m here because I know it’s important to him, and he is important to me. I’m here because I’m a true friend.
